The company was registered in Adelaide, South Australia on October 1913, as South Australian Fertilizer Company Ltd. The company’s name changed, by a special resolution passed in 1920, to Cresco Fertilizers Limited. Cresco Fertilizer (W.A) Ltd was established in September 1927, under the sponsorship of Cresco Fertilizer Ltd. The company’s shares were listed in 1928. The company was associated with the Adelaide Chemical & Fertilizer Co. Ltd. Wallaroo-Mt Lyell Ltd., to develop the large deposit of pyrites at Naire, S.A. This company, formed in 1951, commenced production in July, 1955. In January 1966 W. R. Grace acquired a majority of shares in Cresco Fertilizers Limited. In 1967 the company increased its holdings in Cresco Fertilizers (W.A) Holdings Ltd to a controlling interest. A new sulphuric acid plant was opened at Port Lincoln in November 1966. In 1969 the company’s farming interest and fertilizer interests were separated by the formation of Eyre Peninsula. In January 1972 W. R. Grace made a successful offer for all remaining shares that it did not hold in Cresco Fertilizers. | |
