In 1910 Coglan & Tulloch's Brewing Co Ltd changed it's name to The Ballarat Brewing Co Pty Ltd. The company achieved public status in 1936 and adopted it's current name. In 1953 the company purchased the Volum Brewery at Geelong. Carlton United Breweries Ltd in 1958 purchased the brewing operations of the company but not the 102 company owned hotels.

Details

The company was registered in Victoria in 1895 as Coghlan & Tulloch's Ballarat Brewing Co. Ltd. to amalgamate the firms of Magill and Coghlan and Tulloch and Son, which had brewing and hotel interests in Ballarat. In 1911 the name was changed to the Ballarat Brewing Co. Pty. Ltd. Re-converted to a public company under the name The Ballarat Brewing Company Limited in 1936. In 1953, the company acquired Volum Brewing Co. Ltd.

On September 15, 1958, the brewing assets were sold to Carlton United Breweries Ltd. After the sale the company's principal assets were 62 hotel and other properties held for future development. In 1979, the company purchased the Gordon Hotel Portland and 100% of J. J Goller & Co. Pty. Ltd.

The company was removed from the official list of the Australian Stock Exchange on March 13, 1997 pursuant to listing rule 17.14.

The Ballarat Brewing Co Ltd is listed as a subsidiary of Foster's Group Limited.
