|
Dr Henry John Lindeman began growing vines and producing wines in the 1840s. Business progressed and in 1879 Dr Lindeman took into partnership three of his five sons, Charles, Arthur and Herbert, as H.J. Lindeman. Lindeman died in 1881 and the business was carried on by his three sons. A private company, Lindeman Ltd, was incorporated in 1906. Up until the pre war years the business progressed and further vineyards were purchased. This period of successful operations was followed by over 20 years of financial difficulties. A Receiver was appointed in 1931 and it was not until 1947 that control was handed back to shareholders. In 1953 the company was converted to a public company. 1960 saw the named changed to Lindemans Wines Pty Limited. This had been preceded in 1959 of the formation of the holding company Lindeman (Holdings) Limited. |
