Originally formed as Chilliago Pty Ltd by John Moffatt, C.W. Chapman and J.S Reid to exploit the mineral resources of the Chillago region. They wished to construct a rail line from Mareeba to Chillago plus associated mining and smelting infrastructure. This required specific legislation in the Queensland Parliament, the Mareeba to Chillago Railway Act. Upon the passing of the legislation the promoters formed a new company in 1898, New Chillago Railway and Mines Ltd to acquire the assets of Chillago Pty Ltd. In 1905 J.S. Reid formed Chillago Co Ltd. |
