Summary

In 1896 the Sugar Beet Works Act was passed in the Victorian Parliament. The Act was passed with the intention of encouraging the establishment of a sugar beet industry in Victoria. The company was registered in 1896 and production commenced in 1898. The following year draught affected production and the Victorian State Government, which had subsidised the undertaking, took over the factory. The factory was closed in 1948 and the buildings were demolished in 1964.
