The Western Australian based Rural and Industries Bank of Western Australia changed it's name to Bank of Western Australia Ltd in 1994 and adopted the trading name BankWest. In December 1995 the bank was acquired by the Bank of Scotland. As part of the agreement for the purchase, 49% of the shares were to be offered to the public. The company was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in February 1996. |
