The company was incorporated in Victoria in March 1925, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company of Canada Limited, a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company (USA).
In 1926 assembly plants were built in Brisbane and Adelaide and in 1930 in Perth.
In 1963, the Ford Sales Company of Australia Limited was formed as a subsidiary of the parent company to undertake the vehicle marketing activities of Ford Australia.
